Our Anti-Services

So we have a list on our front page of all the things we offer in terms of services.

But here are the things we are not awesome at doing:

Retargeting.

We feel like this is a sketchy marketing practice – it might be effective, but it feels like an invasion of privacy to us as consumers and as marketers. We do not run retargeting campaigns for any of our partners. There are better, more ethical ways to grow a business. Promise.

E-mail list purchasing.

The tactic of purchasing lists of e-mail addresses for specific target markets through sites like Exact Data is technically legal in the United States – but also technically quite gross. It’s the act of purchasing e-mail addresses for people who have not opted in to receive your marketing messages and we do support this practice.

Resisting legal compliance.

Speaking of, we strictly adhere to CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CCPA and other privacy regulations on behalf of our partners. We’re not going to break the law for you.

Website development & public relations management.

We’ll help you work with vendors who can offer these services but currently, we’re not staffed to support these needs.

When it comes to picking our partners, here are brands we aren’t awesome at helping:

Huge, global companies.

We’re a small shop based primarily on the East Coast in the US – if you have a company spanning multiple time-zones and countries, we probably can’t help you effectively.

Companies who don’t track their bottom line.

There has to be a balance between having/making fun products and making money. We can help you have the hard conversations about running your business but we can only take you so far.

Companies with a history of using sex to sell.

This is woman founded and owned agency, unlike most of the other marketing agencies on Earth. We are not fans of brands like GoDaddy and Hardee’s (along with countless others) that portray people as sexual objects. This has historically been a problem in the game industry and we would like to do what we can to fix it rather than perpetuate it.

Unresponsive partners.

If we enter a partnership with you, we’re in this together. We don’t work with companies who think this is a one-way street. We’re fluent in e-mail, SMS, Zoom, Google Meet, Slack, Discord; you name it, we’ll communicate with you on the platform(s) of your choosing. But this is important for us both to see success from the relationship.

"Honesty, transparency, and an authentic voice are critical for sustainable brands. Partnering with an authentic, no-BS company like Exothermic makes communicating our values easy because they live them, too."
